A web site that looks great to the human eye might be totally meaningless to search engines. For example, if your web site is built of pictures that contain the text of your pages, search engines won't find anything they can use on your site. Search engines visit web pages with software programs called search engine spiders (or search engine bots, or search engine crawlers). A search engine spider is a simple software program that parses the HTML code of web pages to determine the content of these web pages. þ Things you should know:1. It doesn't make sense to check web page rankings every day because search engines don't change their result pages that often. 2. The next time you use that search engine, take a close look at the results. If the result pages list text like "Powered by Google" or "Results by Yahoo", then it's likely that the search engine doesn't have its own database. Most web surfers prefer non-paid search engine results over paid search engine results so pay per click should only be a part of your search engine campaign. 2.
